At Jim Clark Chevrolet-Cadillac, we know that spring and summer weather brings out more bicyclists in our area. As drivers and riders, it's our responsibility to share the road safely; bikes and vehicles have the same rights.
It's always important to look out for bikes, but especially when you're turning. Before you turn into a driveway or onto another road, signal early and take a moment to check your mirrors. That way, you reduce the risk of turning into a cyclist who's riding next to your car.
Since bikes are slower than cars, you'll often need to pass them. When you do, make sure to leave a minimum of three feet between the rider and your side mirror. Most states allow you to cross the lane markers to pass as long as the next lane is clear of traffic and pedestrians; check local and state laws for specific rules.
