The Chevrolet Colorado's performance features center around the combined efforts of the components that make up its powertrains, each of which have different specs from one another. The entry level option consists of a four-cylinder base accompanied by a six-speed transmission, the intermediate engine goes up to 308 horsepower with a 3.6 liter V6 and an eight-speed automatic, and a 2.8 liter diesel four-cylinder which results in the 369 pound feet of torque that such an engine is known for; the diesel engine does perform differently from the other choices due to the reliance on diesel instead of gasoline.

Because of the tradeoff in speed, the diesel more than makes up for it with its other benefits, from fuel economy to the towing capabilities at the owner's disposal, and even the trekking advantages that makes off-road driving that much more appealing.
